There is no doubt that Sparrow Records artist, Matthew West has a beautiful way
of looking at life. The very first song on his album proves it.
"More" is written from the perspective of God telling His child that
He loves them more than anything in creation and paints a beautiful picture of
how big the love of God is through this song ("I love you more than the sun
that I taught how to shine"). Matthew's view on life also shines
through the design of the CD - it has "SAD" in big letters with a big
line drawn through it. The CD title "Happy" really does tell you
a lot about what this disc has to offer.
One of the best songs on the album is "The Turnaround." It's an
honest song, asking questions of why: "I wonder why I have to struggle /
But then again / If I wasn't drowning I wouldn't need You to save me / If I
wasn't broken I wouldn't need you to heal me."
Another moment that shines on this album is the song "You Know Where to
Find Me." The message is that God is there reaching out. "It's
like you're drowning right in front of me / And I'm reaching out but you can't
see / There's something holding on to you so tight... / If you ever need me /
You know where to find me / I will be waiting where I've always been...right by
your side."
This album is a beautiful interpretation of what life truly is for a
Christian. It has its amazing moments where we feel God's love and know
that He's telling us that He loves us more than anything. Then there are
moments when we sit back and question why like in "The
Turnaround." And there are the wonderful times when we reach out to
God and find that He's right there exactly when we need them. ("You Know
Where to Find Me") Matthew gives the world a look at his life through
his lyrics. And what we see is a man who loves life and knows where true
"happy"-ness comes from.
