"We want kids to know you don't have to
act sexy to be cool."
Brace yourself.
The gifted youngsters of Jump5 will blow you away!
Trained as competitive dancers, gymnasts, and vocalists, talented teens Lesley
Moore, Libby Hodges, Chris Fedun, and brother and sister Brandon and Brittany
Hargest bend and spin, and spring and twirl as they deliver a sound that's so
explosive, you won't be able to sit still!
The group's star-launching debut CD,
Jump5, is a sassy blend of get-you-groovin' beats and wholesome,
thought-provoking melodies. Their debut single, "Spinnin' Around,"
is already on fire after being added to Radio Disney airwaves its first week of
release. The energetic dance floor beat captures the youthful, topsy-turvy
spirit of love (Spinnin' Around, I've got this funny feeling/Turning my whole
world upside down)-an unpredictable emotion that a certain someone is too
familiar with. "I learned fast that girls get mad if you don't call them
and they don't understand busy schedules," Chris laughs.
Guaranteed to be a future hit, "Tell Me
Why" takes you on an honest exploration of the undeserving nature of a real
and lasting love.
But just when you get cozy with the
album's pumped-up, perky jams, Jump5 calls your attention to the fact that kids
also worry about serious social issues, in the wake of terrorist bombings and
school shootings. In melodic unity on "Change A Heart, Change The
World," the singers question the direction our society is going and point
to the power we have to stop it from spinning out of control. (Don't you wish
we could make this a better place/Can't you see we must live life a different
way/Everyday).
Just as important as their upbeat sound and
intelligent lyrics is the message Jump5 is set on spreading to young people
around the world. In a time when necklines are plunging, bellies are getting
barer and it's near impossible to tell the difference between a 14-year-old and
a 24-year-old, the too-cute quintet are proud to act their ages. "I think
it's gross the way some stars dress to get attention," Lesley, 14, groans.
"We can be modest and still have fun." Besides, 15-year-old Chris
adds, "Once we resort to taking off our clothes, people will no longer see
the real things we have to offer."
In other words, you won't find the
electric ensemble of Jump5 exposing anything but their pop rockin' rhythms,
positive message and an unbelievably energetic performance, which is guaranteed
to leave you in jaw-dropping disbelief. "You should never follow anybody
just to be hip or cool," 12-year-old Brittany relates about their
go-against-the-grain motto. Brandon, 14, chimes in, advising kids, "Yeah,
don't listen to people who try and pressure you. It's easier to be yourself than
someone else."
That act-their-age attitude is the heart of Jump5.
And like other pop phenoms they musically admire-Destiny's Child, Jessica
Simpson and Creed-the youngsters count on their Christian spirituality to guide
them. "Our faith is a source of inspiration for us," Lesley says.
"We want people to know you can be cool and be Christian."
Jump5 is going to rock the world!
The Beginning
Banded in 2000 by an open casting call in their
hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, all five members grew up on the extremely
competitive dance circuit, where being the best dancer simply wasn't enough.
Lesley, Libby, Chris, Brandon and Brittany each went that extra mile to perfect
the body-bending art of gymnastics in order to enhance their athletic ability.
Brittany, Brandon and their close
friend (a.k.a. "sister") Lesley competed on the same dance team for
years and had run into Libby and Chris at several competitions. The day of the
auditions, the rivals found themselves face to face among many other hopefuls.
Standing in line and eyeing each other, they knew exactly what they were up
against in the showdown that promised to change their lives forever. When these
final five were selected, the competitors had to set aside their instinct to
outshine each other.
They knew if they didn't bond, they would bomb.
The result was explosive. Not only
did they form a tight friendship ("We practice so much, we just sleep at
each other's houses," 14-year-old Libby says.), the newly banded JUMP5 so
impressed Nashville-based Sparrow Records that they became the only teen act
signed to the label to date. "When the group's director asked me to check
them out, I remember thinking, `I hate going to these things,'" recalls
their manager Norman Miller. "But he was a good friend, and I couldn't say
no. Now, I'm glad I went, because they blew me away. I immediately called
Sparrow President Peter York and said, `You've got to see this group.' And the
rest is history."
Today, Jump5 are about to take their act on the
road, joining pop sensations Aaron Carter, A*Teens and Baha Men, among others,
on Radio Disney's Amphitheater tour (Radio Disney Live). The eight-week,
top-market tour kicks off on August 25. Keep your calendars open!
